Position: Part-time Bike Mechanic and/or Educator - Barrie, ON

Job Description: Firebird Community Cycle is a registered not-for-profit, cycling education hub which offers an open and accessible drop-in DIY repair space and repair workshops. We are dedicated to the promotion of bicycle education and culture through the sustainable and accessible rebuilding, reusing, recycling and redistribution of all bicycle products.
The Bike Mechanic/Bike Repair Educator is responsible for delivery of the Bikes for All program based at the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) (134 Anne St. S, Barrie). Expectations include but are not limited to: staffing regular DIY shop hours, coordinating City of Barrie supported bike giveaway program with local social service agencies, repairing bikes to be given away, organizing and teaching three, 12 hour repair clinics for selected groups.

Key Responsibilities:
Teach bicycle maintenance and mechanical skills
Provide educational opportunities in a way that is friendly and inclusive
Maintain an accessible, positive, and safe working environment
Supervise volunteers, fostering participation and engagement
Act as a community liaison for bicycle resources
Work productively without supervision
Communicate promptly and effectively with fellow staff and volunteers
Track program participation and use
Contribute to development of Firebird’s programs and services
Assist in the operations of the shop, including tracking inventory, administration, and front-line customer service;

Qualifications:
1-2 years of previous work/volunteer experience in bike-related programming, education and training (or similar).
Strong, demonstrable knowledge and experience in bicycle mechanics
Strong teaching skills and working with diverse learning styles
Emergency CPR/First Aid
Able to obtain a Vulnerable Sectors Police Check


Assets:
Solid understanding of shop operations, including scheduling, inventory, and administration
Demonstrated experience event planning and coordination
Demonstrated public engagement and customer service skills
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and ability levels

Wage/Salary: $25.00
