Job Description: Summary: This position requires a bicycle mechanic who is able to complete high level repairs such as wheel builds, hydraulic brake bleeds, electronic shifting diagnostics, internally geared hub service and complete bicycle overhauls. Additional duties include hot waxing cross country skis and sharpening skates!

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform bike repairs ranging from minor adjustments to major overhauls

Capable of wheel building and truing

Ensure that proper safety practices are being followed

Make sure that there is good communication between sales and service departments.

Help maintain a positive work environment

Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and organization of the repair shop, including maintenance of tools

Check work email and respond at the beginning and end of every shift

Assist Bike Department Manager with the bike parts inventory and purchasing

Ensure that necessary parts are in stock

Keep parts area organized, clean & labeled correctly

Parts have accurate price tags

Inventory is accurate

Unnecessary parts are returned or put on clearance

Perform inventory cycle counts as needed or directed


Education/Experience:
Minimum of one year of professional bicycle mechanic experience. Applicants with WBI or UBI will be given priority

The Role

The Senior Bicycle Mechanic works with their Mechanic colleagues under the Shop Manager to perform high quality repairs with quick turnaround to customers who rely on their bikes for daily transportation needs. Drawing on previous experience in a commercial or co-operative bike shop, the Senior Mechanic has the confidence to work with minimal supervision and perform repairs that follow industry standards for safety and workmanship.

Pay: $17.50 - $19.50 per hour
Weekly Hours: 30 - 45 per week according to workshop needs
Employment Term: Seasonal from April 1 through August 31

Option to extend the employment term may be available depending on shop needs.

Requirements
At least two season’s worth experience at a retail bicycle shop
Passing our practical interview portion (performing a sample repair)
A passion for cycling
Formal mechanic training is an asset but not an absolute requirement
